Communicate 3.1.2- News

There are numerous digital resources that online instructors can use to communicate important information to their students and parents.  Ongoing communication is crucial for all stakeholders and there are a variety of ways in which to deliver important information.  Here are my three effective methods to communicate in an online classroom:

  • Newsletter- I use smore for my newsletters.  Smore is a creative way to share information with students. I like the fact that it is user friendly with very attractive backgrounds.  It is easy to upload files, links, videos and images which are great ways to catch students’ interest.  I will definitely use Flipsnack in the future.  This newsletter is an effective method of communication as it is a news kiosk that is easily created.  It’s a great way for both students and parents to get a snapshot of what is due and when synchronous sessions are provided.  I love to incorporate goanimate videos, Voki and makebeliefscomix for reminders as they are an amusing way to convey the information.
  • Email- Of course this is an effective means of communication with both students and parents.  Emails are a great way to notify students about missing assignments or upcoming projects or deadlines.
  • Dialmycalls/Remind101- I make calls with Dialmycalls and send text messages with Remind 101 to send out quick reminders about upcoming assignments, deadlines or missing work.

Here is an example of a news item:

“Watch these videos to hear Spanish speakers talk about their leisure activities” or

“Try these links to practice for Friday’s quiz”
