Evaluate 1.1.1- Formative Assessment

I provide students with a variety of formative online activities to encourage mastery of the content.  These activities provide students with immediate feedback, and  I always encourage the students to redo the activities until they master them.  In addition, I create practice quizzes online, which allow students to review their performance and the opportunity to retake these quizzes until they master the learning target. These are used as formative assessments before taking the unit test.  Usually by the time they take the unit assessment, they realize what their strengths and weaknesses are before taking the unit test.

Most students appreciate the opportunity to practice in order to achieve their learning goals. By using online activities and quizzes, students can self-reflect weekly in my class.  I create activities to practice on the first day of a unit so that they have ample opportunity to practice before a summative assessment.  I am able to login to their activities and see their progress.  If they are doing poorly, I encourage them to redo the activities.  Parents know that they have numerous opportunities to improve, so they work with me to encourage their students to practice and master the content. My students use Quia and with this tool, their grades are tracked as well as the amount of time spent completing the activities. In addition to Quia, I create activities with Quizlet and Conjuguemos. There are so many different types of activities and assessments that can be created with these tools that differentiation is a breeze, and I can address students’ different learning styles.  By creating a variety of instructional tools, I can motivate and engage my students so that they be successful and proud of their accomplishments.
